Short version: your bills live in your browser, not on our servers.

What is stored, and where

Bills, income, your balance, low-water mark, paid ticks and sinking funds are saved in your browser's local storage on this device, under keys starting with billriver:. They never leave the device unless you use one of the AI features below. There are no accounts, and BillRiver never connects to a bank. The sample data shown on first visit is not saved.

Because storage is per browser, data does not sync between your phone and laptop, and clearing your browser data deletes it. Use "Download CSV" on the monthly tracker or forecast pages to keep a copy.

The optional AI features

Two features send data to a server, only when you press their button: Import bills from a statement sends the text you pasted, and Ask the river reviewer sends a summary of your bill names, amounts, dates and projected balances plus any question you typed. The request goes through Vercel AI Gateway to a language model provider to generate the answer. BillRiver does not store it or log its contents. Remove account numbers or names from pasted text if you prefer.

Analytics

We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to count page views. It is cookieless and does not collect personal data or anything you type into the tools.

Clear everything

This deletes all BillRiver data from this browser and brings back the sample household.
